About the position

The Senior Structural Engineer will lead the design and development of structural systems specifically for Navy applications, focusing on shipbuilding and defense projects. This role involves enhancing design processes and technologies, supporting research and development, and conducting integration, testing, and evaluation activities. The engineer will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, mentor junior engineers, and prepare technical reports for stakeholders while staying updated on industry trends and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of structural systems for shipbuilding and defense projects.
  • Enhance design processes and technologies through mechanical and structural design expertise.
  • Support research and development, integration, testing, and evaluation activities for Navy programs.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and documents to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional technical and acquisition team.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a positive, inclusive culture within the team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience with engineering of structures.
  • Experience with structural designs in Navy or defense systems.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team to achieve program outcomes.
  • Knowledge of naval vessel structural design specifications, standards, and practices.
  • Ability to analyze mechanical designs through review of design artifacts.
  • Top Secret clearance required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Navy acquisition processes.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Certification.
