About the position

The Structural Engineer position at Bechtel involves originating and checking structural engineering deliverables, including calculations, specifications, and material requisitions. The role requires collaboration with other engineering disciplines and participation in technical meetings to ensure the successful design and construction of the Hanford Vit Plant, a facility aimed at safely disposing of radioactive and chemical waste. Responsibilities

  • Originate and check structural engineering deliverables such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
  • Review and coordinate technical documents with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction teams.
  • Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.
  • Participate in technical meetings and perform intra-discipline coordination.

Requirements

  • BS in structural/civil engineering from an accredited university or college, and a minimum of 1 year of related experience (Level 1) or 3 years of related experience (Level 2).
  • In lieu of a degree, 7 years (Level 1) or 9 years (Level 2) of related experience is acceptable.
  • Passed the Engineer in Training (EIT) exam or obtain EIT within 12 months of hire date.
  • Ability to express technical issues clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL, STAAD, or SAP2000.
  • Proficient in Mathcad or similar software.
  • Knowledgeable of ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 4, ASCE 7, and IBC codes.
  • Experience with CADD applications like MicroStation or AutoCad.
  • Experience with basic engineering deliverables such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions.
  • Experience with methods of construction for concrete and steel structures.
  • Willingness to relocate after assignment completion.
