About the position

Metromont Corporation is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team at our Winchester, VA location. This position is integral to our mission of providing innovative precast concrete solutions and ensuring the highest quality in our projects. As a Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the cost-efficient design of precast concrete systems, connections, and components. You will review and approve drawings developed from designs and coordinate with drafter/modelers, coordinators, and other engineers to facilitate the successful completion of projects. Your role will involve performing engineering calculations and details for all products and connections, managing engineering design aspects of projects with minimal assistance, and reviewing contract documents to ensure familiarity with project requirements. In this position, you will attend project meetings, potentially leading coordination meetings, and will be responsible for writing and reviewing requests for information (RFI). You will independently resolve engineering design issues and assist others in doing the same. Checking engineering design calculations and details of others, including external consultants and subcontractors, for accuracy and adherence to Metromont standards will be a key part of your responsibilities. You will also review erection drawings and shop tickets to ensure compliance with designs and standards, and you will be expected to maintain awareness of production processes through regular plant visits. Additionally, you will need to become licensed in states where engineering work is performed and review and stamp erection drawings, calculations, and repair details when assigned. Evaluating design costs compared to estimates and taking appropriate action will also be part of your duties. You will complete repairs without assistance and must adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations. Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations and details for all products and connections.

  • Review contract documents to be familiar with project requirements.
  • Attend project meetings; may lead coordination meetings.
  • Write and review requests for information (RFI).
  • Resolve engineering design issues independently.
  • Assist others with resolving engineering design issues.
  • Check engineering design calculations and details of others for accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to Metromont standards.
  • Review erection drawings, master shop tickets, and any additional shop tickets to ensure designs and standards are followed.
  • Be actively aware of production processes through regular plant visits.
  • Become licensed in states where engineering work is performed and review and stamp erection drawings, calculations, and repair details when assigned.
  • Evaluate design cost as compared to estimate and take appropriate action.
  • Complete repairs without assistance.
  • Adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • 3-7 years of relevant engineering experience - internal or external.
  • BS in Civil Engineering required; structural emphasis preferred.
  • PE Certification required.
  • Previous precast knowledge preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and dependability.
  • Eager to learn and able to work individually or on a team.
  • Strongly values relationships and interaction with people.

  • Computer skills, experience with engineering design software preferred.
