About the position

The Structural Engineer at Clayco will play a crucial role in the design and quality assurance of various industrial projects, including distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, food and beverage plants, and cold storage units. This position is unique as it involves collaboration with in-house Development, Architecture, and Construction teams, allowing for a comprehensive approach to structural design. The engineer will be engaged from the project's inception, enabling them to anticipate and address preliminary design challenges effectively. This proactive involvement ensures that the design aligns with the construction schedule, rather than relying solely on a fully finished package, which is a hallmark of Clayco's design-build methodology. In this role, the Structural Engineer will focus on problem-solving, working closely with architects, engineers, and contractors who are all part of the same team. This collaborative environment fosters ongoing value engineering, where designs are continuously refined based on practical insights and historical construction experience. The engineer will also have the opportunity to conduct site visits and quality assessments, which are essential for identifying and resolving field issues. Responsibilities

  • Perform structural engineering design and analysis under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
  • Collaborate with in-house Development, Architecture, and Construction teams on various projects.
  • Anticipate and address preliminary design problems from the project's inception.
  • Engage in ongoing value engineering as designs are refined throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct site visits and quality assurance assessments to resolve field issues.
  • Build relationships with field staff, including superintendents and on-site personnel.
  • Utilize 3-D CAD software to assist in design processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering with a Structural emphasis.
  • Master's Degree with Structural emphasis preferred.
  • PE and/or SE license desirable but not required.
  • Team-oriented attitude is essential.
  • Ability to be resilient and adaptable to design changes.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-D CAD experience is a plus.
