About the position

Kimley-Horn's Miami, Florida office is seeking a Civil Engineer with over 8 years of experience to join their Structures team. This position is not remote, and the selected candidate will play a crucial role in managing and leading various structural engineering projects. The Civil Engineer will be responsible for developing full sets of structural drawings and technical specifications independently, ensuring that all project documentation meets the highest standards of quality. Additionally, the role involves training and mentoring Engineers-In-Training (EITs) in the field of structural engineering, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth within the team. The Civil Engineer will perform structural design calculations and oversee plan production activities, preparing comprehensive project document submittal packages while maintaining a robust Quality Control program throughout the project lifecycle. This position also requires leading and providing support during the construction phase of building projects, ensuring that all structural engineering aspects are executed effectively. The Civil Engineer will actively participate in meetings and presentations with clients, contractors, and design team members, contributing to the overall success of the projects and identifying new opportunities through networking with both new and existing clients. Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management and leading of projects
  • Develop full sets of structural drawings and technical specifications without guidance
  • Train and mentor Engineers-In-Training (EITs) in structural engineering
  • Perform structural design calculations, plan production activities, and prepare project document submittal packages, while maintaining a Quality Control program for the entire project
  • Lead and provide support for construction phase efforts on building projects in structural engineering
  • Support and participate in meetings and presentations with clients, contractors, and design team members
  • Contribute to identifying project opportunities through networking with new and existing clients

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant engineering design experience
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Knowledge and experience in AutoCAD, Revit, and Sketchup with some ability to produce drawings and details, when needed
  • Knowledge and experience in structural analysis and design software, such as STAAD, RAM, E-Tabs, MathCAD, TEDDS, ADAPT PT, and other structural related design software
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-discipline to meet client deadlines
  • Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Ability to multi-task and work on a variety of projects concurrently
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and technical skills with a continuous mindset on personal and staff development
  • Positive, can-do attitude and a strong work ethic
