About the position

The position involves the design, evaluation, and application of engineering judgment to analyze aboveground storage tanks and related civil structures. The successful candidate will be responsible for devising innovative approaches to solve complex engineering problems, providing sizing to the Design/Drafting group, and preparing necessary calculations and standards. It is crucial that all designs comply with applicable codes and standards, accepted engineering practices, and the specific standards set by TF Warren. Key responsibilities include providing sizing for the structural components of aboveground storage tanks in accordance with standards such as AWWA D103, NFPA 22, and Factory Mutual. The candidate must be knowledgeable in relevant codes and standards, including ASCE 7, IBC, NFPA, and OSHA. The role also requires analyzing structural attachments and supports related to the vessel, walkways, platforms, and other supports, while recommending fabrication and field-friendly solutions when sizing members and determining connection details. Additionally, the candidate will generate sketches as required to convey structural sizing to the Design/Drafting team, produce tank loads and design calculations as needed, and review, approve, and stamp design packages, calculations, and other technical details. The role also involves organizing, drafting, and implementing technical standards, along with performing other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sizing for the structural components of aboveground storage tanks complying with AWWA D103, NFPA 22, Factory Mutual, and other tank standards.
  • Know and apply relevant codes and standards, such as ASCE 7, IBC, NFPA, and OSHA.
  • Analyze structural attachments and supports related to the vessel, walkways, platforms, and other supports.
  • Recommend fabrication and field-friendly solutions when sizing members and determining connection details.
  • Generate sketches as required to convey structural sizing to Design/Drafting.
  • Produce tank loads and design calculations as needed.
  • Review, approve, and stamp design packages, calculations, and other technical details.
  • Organize, draft, and implement technical standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in structural analysis.
  • Excellent knowledge of ASCE 7, IBC, NFPA, and OSHA.
  • Experience with API, AWWA, and Factory Mutual is preferred.
  • Aboveground Storage Tank experience is desired, either bolted or welded.
  • Licensed professional engineer (PE) or have passed all exams and eligible for licensure within 6 months.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using finite element analysis software.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting 2D drawings.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite.
