About the position

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join our reputable contracting firm in Portland, Oregon. The role involves working on various projects related to cold formed steel, including both interior and exterior framing. The engineer will be responsible for preparing drawings, calculations, and supporting field operations while ensuring compliance with engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Work on typical projects involving exterior and interior framing, ceilings, and load-bearing structures, expected to work independently.
• Communicate directly with internal and external team members, including field personnel, and attend project meetings.
• Prepare drawings for shop drawing submittals and collaborate with the BIM and drafting team.
• Prepare calculation packages for submission to the project design team and local jurisdictions.
• Participate in bid reviews and estimating new projects.
• Act as a liaison with relevant project professional staff, such as the Architect of Record or Engineer of Record.
• Monitor and inspect work in progress to ensure systems are built according to engineered drawings.
• Support field operations by translating structural drawings and specifications for the field team, preparing drawings for site use, and creating engineered sketches.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in engineering design
• Prior knowledge or work experience dealing with cold formed steel framing
• Demonstrate effective written and verbal English language communication skills
• Ability to use independent judgment and problem-solving skills
• Ability to prioritize personal workload and recognize priority conflicts

Nice-to-haves

• Licensed PE or SE
• Local to office location (relocation assistance will be provided)
• Experience with prefabrication and modular construction
