Shive-Hattery has an immediate opportunity for a licensed Structural Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience in the design and leadership of structural engineering projects. This position is available in the West Des Moines office. The ideal candidate will possess a Professional Engineer licensure in Iowa or the ability for immediate licensure in Iowa. The role requires structural design experience using concrete, steel, and masonry, with wood design being a plus. The candidate should be capable of leading the structural design of a project from schematic design through construction documents for both single-discipline and multi-discipline projects. In this position, the Structural Engineer will be expected to provide direction to young engineers and designers, collaborating with other disciplines to ensure project success. Effective time and workload management is crucial, which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing work. Attention to detail is essential, along with strong oral and written communication skills to present design solutions to Owners. Familiarity with Revit, 3D software (Navisworks/Recap), structural engineering design software, and Microsoft Office software is preferred. The responsibilities include designing projects as a structural engineer for industrial, commercial, and education projects of various sizes, with a primary focus on industrial projects. The engineer will work closely with experienced engineers and technicians while coordinating work within multi-discipline teams. The majority of efforts will focus on long-standing industrial clients both locally and nationally. The role also involves leading the structural design portion of projects, making design recommendations and decisions, and overseeing the completion and quality of construction drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation. Additionally, the engineer will establish and manage structural scope, schedule, and budget, mentor and teach other team members, and interact with clients and contractors as a representative of the company regarding ongoing projects. The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is required, along with the capability to drive, access an automobile, climb ladders, work off elevated platforms and open grating, and wear personal protective equipment as required for specific clients and sites. Other responsibilities include overseeing shop drawing reviews and field data collection.
