About the position

As a Structural Engineer at Actalent, you will play a crucial role in the design and implementation of structural systems. This position involves collaborating with engineering personnel to ensure that customer specifications are met, while also managing the accuracy and completeness of structural layout drawings. You will be responsible for planning and scheduling components for fabrication, as well as traveling to job sites to work closely with field personnel and other engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Receive design input from engineering personnel.
  • Review customer specifications and standards for incorporation into design.
  • Obtain written approval for any deviations taken from specifications and document the deviation in the Project Engineer's job file.
  • Seek design input/validation from a Professional Engineer when appropriate.
  • Complete structural layout drawings for systems and coordinate layouts with systems layout engineering personnel and project engineer.
  • Assure work is accurate and complete, maintaining carrier clearance lines in all locations.
  • Ensure customer and internal CAD standards are followed and appropriate dimensions are applied.
  • Produce clear and precise drawings that are easy to read and efficiently utilize paper.
  • Plan, schedule, and release components for fabrication, meeting installation schedules and avoiding excess purchases.
  • Utilize obsolete inventory when possible and limit over-buying.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in RISA 3D, Tekla, and structural analysis software.
  • Experience providing design and engineering decision-making for structural steel supporting structures, conveyor systems, service platforms, and more.
  • Ability to read and understand requirements from specifications, drawings, instructions, and other design input information.
  • Practical understanding of conveyor system layout processes and common methods of supporting.
  • Understanding of architectural and building construction and erection practices.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills for working with engineering personnel, shop, and field staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelors Degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Prior experience as a structural drafter is desirable.
  • P.E. License is highly preferred but not required.
