About the position

The Structural Engineering Discipline Lead at AECOM will oversee the design and implementation of flood risk management projects, including structures such as dams, locks, and floodwalls. This role involves leading a team of engineers, ensuring compliance with standards, and collaborating with clients and stakeholders to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions. The position is hybrid, allowing for flexibility in work location while contributing to significant infrastructure projects across the nation.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize structural design and oversee preparation of structural analyses, plans, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder buy-in to solutions.
  • Oversee and review work produced by others, ensuring quality control measures are followed.
  • Seek opportunities to innovate and trial new methods in structural design.
  • Delegate tasks and act as a technical mentor to team members.
  • Ensure compliance of design with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Participate in alternatives analyses and value engineering.
  • Perform constructability reviews and conduct site visits at active construction sites.
  • Present project proposals to clients as needed.
  • Provide expertise on staffing requirements for project scope and schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field with 8 years of relevant experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Professional Engineer license in one state in the US, with the ability to obtain licenses in other states via reciprocity.
  • Experience working on federal projects for agencies like USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, NRCS.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Expertise in structural design for flood risk management projects.
  • Working knowledge of federal flood control design guidelines.
  • At least 15 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, with 10 years focused on flood risk management projects.
  • Leadership experience in at least one lock and dam system design project in the last 10 years.
  • Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Excellent understanding of software such as SAP2000, Excel, CPGA, and GROUP management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in alternative delivery projects not necessarily in flood risk management.
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
