About The Position

The Structural Fitter position at CVC Construction Inc involves the layout, positioning, aligning, and fitting together of fabricated parts of structural metal products in preparation for welding or bolting. The role requires a strong understanding of construction drawings and quality criteria, as well as the ability to work with various tools and equipment to ensure precise assembly of metal structures.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of structural fitting work experience, excluding helper or school experience.
• Ability to understand and interpret construction and sub-assembly drawings.
• Knowledge of quality criteria for acceptable work per construction drawing.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred knowledge of shipyard construction.

Responsibilities

• Layout, position, align, and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products.
• Pass both written and practical tests for Fitter II level.
• Understand and interpret construction and sub-assembly drawings.
• Examine drawings applying knowledge of geometry, heat effects, weld shrinkage, and metal thickness.
• Mark reference points onto the floor or face block and transpose points using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
• Locate reference points to fit together large assemblies.
• Align and join structures at sub-assembly and block level.
• Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, come-along, wedges, drift pins, and pry bars/hammer.
• Move parts into position using hoists, jibs, or overhead cranes.
• Provide direction to welders for building up low spots or short pieces with weld if required.
• Cut parts with a torch and set up blocks, jigs, and fixtures.
• Bevel parts according to specifications on drawings.
• Straighten parts using heat shrinking methods.
• Remove high spots and cuts bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
• Tack weld fitted parts together.
• Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, bolt straps, and bolts parts into positions for welding or bolting.

Benefits

• Pay rate of $23 per hour.
