About the position

The Structural Integrity Engineer at EWI is responsible for advancing the field of fracture mechanics and engineering assessment methodologies to benefit various industries. This role involves innovation, technical sales, project leadership, and ensuring technical quality in project execution. The engineer will work closely with clients to identify project opportunities, develop technology roadmaps, and mentor less experienced staff while promoting EWI's technical capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with technology roadmaps that address market needs and coordinate execution of that strategy utilizing both internal and external resources
  • Develop externally funded and internal R&D projects to drive industry-altering technology innovation solutions and objectives
  • Lead technical dialogue with customers, particularly key or high-value accounts, to identify and mature project opportunities
  • Write proposals that meet clients' technical needs and provide a clear value proposition
  • Serve as business development liaison for key accounts specific to your technical area of expertise
  • Assist with the promotion of EWI's technical capabilities through publications, conferences, technical committees, and marketing content development
  • Develop a strong pipeline of project work to ensure technology sustainability at EWI
  • Mentor and develop both the technical and communication skills of less experienced staff
  • Develop equipment manufacturer partnerships to expand EWI's in-house technical offerings
  • Provide technical oversight during project execution to ensure appropriate technical approaches are employed, takes responsibility for quality of results and deliverables to clients (including reports)
  • Prepare client reports and present project results to clients for larger or more visible projects
  • Stay current with industry trends and technical advancements

Requirements

  • Minimum of B.S. in Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum five (5) or more years of industrial or R&D experience
  • Strong foundation in material science of metals and understanding of its impact on material performance
  • Deep working knowledge in engineering disciplines such as: engineering mechanics, solid mechanics, and fracture mechanics
  • Working knowledge in complimentary technologies such as: mechanical and metallurgical testing methods, thermodynamics, and non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methods
  • Experience or familiarity with testing and engineering assessment of materials under environmental conditions (corrosion, H2, CO2)
  • Deep working knowledge of how to apply relevant codes and standards: ASTM, ASME, API, AWS, ISO, etc.
  • Existing client base and understanding of technical challenges in key markets including, but not limited to, oil and gas, power generation, mining, and agriculture
  • Well-established, industry-recognized knowledge and expertise in engineering assessment methodologies
  • Proficiency in executing scientific research and performing experimental analysis
  • Utilizes judgment in communication styles and behaviors; recognizes impact on other team members
  • Exhibits proficient written and verbal communication with customers both internal and external
  • Analyzes and understands impact of individual contribution to project financial performance
  • Proven adaptability and flexibility as a part of team
  • Ability to maintain excellent customer relationships both internal and external
  • Proven success in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong ability to plan and organize tasks
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Willingness to travel (10%) to customer's and conferences
