About the position

Seattle City Light is seeking safety-focused Structural Ironworkers to join their team in South Seattle. The role involves performing journey-level metal maintenance, repair, fabrication, and installation duties, contributing to the reliable operation of Seattle City Light's hydroelectric plants. Structural Ironworkers will have the opportunity to work on various challenging projects and will report to the Structural Ironworker Crew Chief.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level metal maintenance, repair, fabrication, and installation duties.
  • Lead other skilled craft workers in areas related to Ironworker, Boilermaker, Steamfitter, Sheet Metal Worker, Plumber, or Certified Asbestos Worker.
  • Make independent structural and metallurgical decisions in hazardous circumstances at remote job sites.
  • Read blueprints and estimate hours and materials needed for assigned jobs.
  • Repair, modify, or build additions to large transformers.
  • Repair and modify fabrication of steel transmission towers.
  • Install microwave dishes or passive reflectors and repair supporting structures.
  • Install reinforcing steel in seismic foundations under larger transformers at major substations.
  • Custom build electrical control panels, switch cabinets, and protective enclosures for major substations.
  • Provide skilled labor to repair, replace, or modify potable water, sanitary, or fire systems.
  • Perform asbestos abatement and removal.
  • Weld new fabrication and repair broken or weak welds in hydroelectric turbine runners.
  • Serve as Journeyperson-in-charge/Crew Chief on an assignment basis, planning and coordinating project work schedules.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Four years of journey-level experience as either a Boilermaker, Ironworker, or in a Sheet Metal or Metal Trades.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with pipe fitting, welding, press brake, CNC plasma cutter, steel fabrication, and reading spool drawings.
  • Experience working at hydroelectric generating stations and dams.
