About the position

Industrial Steel LLC, a leading structural steel fabricator located in Rockledge, Florida, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Structural Steel Purchasing Manager/Production Control Manager. This full-time position is essential for ensuring the procurement of all materials necessary for our production facility, as well as managing shop drawings and their distribution for fabrication. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the structural steel industry, with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience. This role requires a team player who possesses excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various departments to meet production goals. In this position, the Purchasing Manager will be responsible for soliciting both formal and informal quotations from prospective suppliers, locating and arranging the purchase of goods and services necessary to support the production facility, and managing machine repairs and services. The successful candidate will identify, qualify, and select suppliers while evaluating their performance to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness. Negotiating terms, conditions, and prices associated with purchases will be a key responsibility, along with generating purchase orders and minimizing excess inventory levels. The Purchasing Manager will also track the status of all outstanding orders, expedite open orders when necessary, and prevent shortages by resolving problems as they arise. Additionally, this role involves managing all shop drawings, ensuring that they are distributed efficiently to the shop for fabrication. The candidate will be expected to assimilate new information promptly, collect electronic files to ensure all revisions and dates are current, and import files into Tekla PowerFab, coding each part for the production process. Training and assisting employees with Tekla PowerFab on tablets and troubleshooting CNC operators will also be part of the job responsibilities. This position reports directly to the General Manager and plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational efficiency of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Solicit formal and informal quotations from prospective suppliers.
  • Locate and arrange for purchase of goods and services necessary to support production facility, and machine repairs/service.
  • Identify, qualify and select suppliers, and evaluate their performance.
  • Conduct negotiation of terms, conditions, costs/prices associated with purchases.
  • Generate Purchase Orders, while minimizing excess inventory levels.
  • Track the status of all outstanding orders and expedite open orders when necessary.
  • Ability to prevent shortages and resolve problems as they arise.
  • Manage all shop drawings and distribute to the shop for fabrication.
  • Promptly and efficiently assimilate new information as it develops.
  • Collect all electronic files to ensure all revisions and dates are current.
  • Import files into Tekla PowerFab and code each part for process needed to produce in the shop.
  • Issue cut sheets for any machine not CNC capable.
  • Create optimized nesting's for each type material with lineal measurement, against Stock.
  • Train and assist employees with Tekla PowerFab on tablets.
  • Assist CNC operators with troubleshooting and replacing parts.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years' structural steel experience in a purchasing and/or production control role
  • Ability to read and understand all construction plans and drawings related to structural steel
  • Tekla PowerFab software knowledge preferred
  • Microsoft Office skills - Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. are required
  • Possess good math skills
  • Analyze information, high attention to detail
  • Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise
  • Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, and inventory processes
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate a professional and positive attitude
  • Must pass initial and random drug and alcohol testing
  • Must pass background check
