About the position

The Level 2 Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for assisting foreman and supervisors with structured cabling projects, performing installations, and troubleshooting connectivity issues. This role includes mentoring Level 1 technicians, ensuring quality standards are met, and managing project timelines for timely completion.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, termination, and testing of Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optic cabling systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of cabling networks and infrastructure issues.
  • Read and interpret project blueprints, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Install and manage pathways, racks, cabinets, conduit systems, and cable trays.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure cabling systems meet TIA/EIA and client standards.
  • Mentor and train Level 1 technicians, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Assist Management with project timelines, materials, and manpower to ensure timely project completion.
  • Perform cable certification using Fluke testers or equivalent equipment.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including test results, cable maps, and work logs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to achieve project goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in structured cabling installation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI).
  • Ability to show leadership skills with multiple technicians on job sites.
  • Proficiency in using Fluke testers, OTDRs, and fiber optic termination tools.
  • Understanding of copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, work on ladders, and manage physically demanding tasks.
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Reliable Transportation
  • Ability to pass Background and Drug Testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • BICSI Installer 2 (Copper and/or Fiber) Certification (Not Required).
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience working on large-scale commercial or data center projects.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
