About the position

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is actively seeking a Structural Technician IV with Structures/Sheetmetal experience for a long-term contract in Hagerstown, MD. In this role, you will utilize your skills and expertise to assemble and create major assembly structures, as well as perform minor part-fitting operations. Your responsibilities will include tasks such as filing, sawing, burring, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming. You will be expected to update job status on our operations database and translate blueprints into fabrications of structural assemblies, which will involve basic layout, precision drilling, countersinking, and the use of calibrated tools. Additionally, you will align parts on jigs and aerospace vehicles using templates and fixtures, and measure parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions. You will also be responsible for modifying both incomplete and complete assemblies, incorporating necessary changes into the structure, and monitoring and verifying quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Performing various maintenance duties and ensuring effective communication between team members, team leads, quality control, and engineering will also be part of your role. The position requires physical, mental, and emotional resilience, as you will frequently walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs. You will need to perform repetitive hand, arm, and finger motions, and possess the ability to discern colors and sounds. The job may require lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs and working in outdoor conditions, which may include exposure to high or low temperatures, rain, snow, and loud noises. This is a safety-sensitive position, responsible for the safety and security of people or property, and may involve inspecting structures, equipment, or vehicles, as well as operating or supervising heavy or dangerous equipment or machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and create major assembly structures and perform minor part-fitting operations.
  • Update job status on the operations database.
  • Translate blueprints into fabrications of structural assemblies.
  • Perform basic layout, precision drilling, and countersinking using calibrated tools.
  • Align parts on jigs and aerospace vehicles using templates and fixtures.
  • Measure parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.
  • Modify incomplete and complete assemblies and incorporate changes into the structure.
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • Perform various maintenance duties and ensure effective communication between team members, team leads, quality control, and engineering.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 10 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to understand and interpret moderately complex technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and/or publications.
  • Ability to complete installations per technical drawings while maintaining edge distance and pitch.
  • Advanced experience with structure assembly, minor part fitting techniques, and repair and refinishing such as airframe corrosion removal, as applicable.
  • Must have/own tools in good working order.
  • Ability to install various fasteners such as rivets and hi-locks.

  • Ability to travel.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense, NASA, or US Military.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required.
