The Athletic Grounds Student Assistant position at The University of Alabama involves supporting the maintenance and operations of athletic fields for football, baseball, and softball. This role is designed for current students of the university, providing them with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in grounds maintenance while contributing to the preparation and upkeep of sports facilities. The assistant will be involved in various tasks including pregame setup, game day operations, and post-game breakdown, ensuring that the fields are in optimal condition for athletic events. In this role, the student assistant will work closely with full-time staff and the Director of Sports Fields, assisting with daily operations and specific tasks assigned to them. Responsibilities include restocking supplies, performing light cleaning and organizational tasks, fueling turf equipment, and maintaining cleanliness of the equipment. The assistant will also engage in general groundskeeping duties such as mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing leaves, contributing to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the athletic grounds. Specific duties vary by sport. For football, the assistant will help with painting the field, setting up and breaking down game equipment, and cleaning up after games. For baseball and softball, responsibilities include preparing the field before games, maintaining the infield, and ensuring bullpens are ready for use. This position requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week, with the flexibility to work nights and weekends during the sports season.
