About the position

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a part-time Student Assistant in the Project Management Unit to provide project support within the Information Technology (IT) sector, specifically in the Digital Experience Platform (DXP) group. This temporary position is designed for college students and involves assisting with various project management tasks while gaining practical experience in a professional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform office administration tasks to support PMO activities.
  • Develop and generate project management reports.
  • Update PMO and vendor management data repositories.
  • Provision user system access.
  • Organize, track, capture minutes and participate in project reviews.
  • Learn incremental software development (ISD) and project management practices.
  • Prepare and track communications.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term at an accredited college or university.
  • Enrolled in at least six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.
  • Declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.
  • Willingness to perform office administration tasks to support the project management office (PMO) activities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with a proven reliable work ethic.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively through email, telephone, instant messaging (IM), and in person.

  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge in desktop productivity software and project management tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Office 365.

  • Ability to collaborate, follow instructions, validate output to ensure quality, escalate issues and share activity status.
  • Experience using Microsoft Windows Operating system.
  • Basic understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
