About the position

The Student Assistant position in Information Technology (IT) at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is a part-time, temporary role designed for college students. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in IT and administrative tasks while working under the supervision of the Information Technology Supervisor II. The role involves supporting various technology projects, reconciling inventory, and assisting with daily administrative duties, providing a comprehensive learning experience in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in reconciling inventory records, ensuring data accuracy and identifying discrepancies.
  • Provide administrative support to the unit, including filing, organizing documents, scheduling meetings, and data entry.
  • Collaborate with IT staff in the implementation of technology projects, helping with documentation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain and update inventory databases, ensuring all records are current and complete.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and other materials related to IT projects and inventory management.
  • Perform routine clerical duties as assigned, including answering phones, responding to emails, and distributing mail.
  • Support IT staff with basic tasks such as setting up equipment, installing software, and performing system updates.
  • Learn and apply IT tools and software while supporting project work.

Requirements

  • Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term at an accredited college or university.
  • Enrolled in at least six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.
  • Declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.
  • Knowledge of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow and Adobe Pro.
  • Experience in business analysis and process reengineering.
  • Experience with software administration, particularly SaaS platforms.
  • Experience with software release management and configuration.
  • Experience troubleshooting and performing root cause analysis.
  • Experience in scripting and query languages (PowerShell, JavaScript, SQL).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
