About the position

Join our team at Georgia Southern University as a Student Assistant in the Manufacturing Engineering Department, where you will serve as a Research Assistant starting in Summer 2024. This part-time position is designed for students who are currently enrolled in at least six undergraduate credit hours or three graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University. As a Student Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the department by setting up and running experimental work and equipment, conducting signal processing and data analysis, and performing literature surveys and reviews. You will also be responsible for critically interpreting literature, learning methodologies, and applying them effectively in your work. In addition to hands-on experimental work, you will engage in technical writing, drafting reports on signal processing and data evaluation from tests conducted. Proofreading and revising reports will also be part of your responsibilities, ensuring that all documentation meets the required standards. This position offers up to 10 hours of work per week, with a flexible schedule to accommodate your availability. The role is ideal for students looking to gain practical experience in a research environment while contributing to the academic mission of Georgia Southern University.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and run the experimental work and equipment based on the manual and instruction by the supervisor
  • Signal processing and data analysis
  • Perform literature surveys and reviews
  • Perform critical interpretation of literature, learn from the methodologies and be able to apply
  • Draft technical report on signal processing and data evaluation from the tests
  • Proofreading and revising the comments on reports

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University
  • Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
