About the position

The Student Athletic Academic Coordinator at Florida State University is responsible for providing academic advising and support to assigned student-athletes. This role involves monitoring academic eligibility, progress, and providing personal counseling. The coordinator will also oversee study hall sessions, report on academic progress to relevant stakeholders, and assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an academic advisor for assigned student-athletes.
  • Monitor academic eligibility and progress of student-athletes.
  • Provide academic support and personal counseling to student-athletes.
  • Oversee study hall sessions and report academic progress to the Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services and head coaches.
  • Advise student-athletes on satisfactory progress towards degree and eligibility standards.
  • Keep relevant staff informed about academic advising support programs for student-athletes.
  • Participate in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.
  • Experience working with student-athletes by monitoring their academic progress and employing educational strategies.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Experience in presenting educational workshops for student-athletes.
  • Experience tutoring, mentoring, or teaching students.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work under deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret and explain policies to students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in special education or education related field.
  • One year experience working with post-secondary students or five years of experience working with student-athletes with diagnosed learning disabilities.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
