About the position
The Student Care Worker position at EdAdvance involves supporting students with special needs in the New Milford area schools. The role focuses on helping students develop life skills and manage their behavior, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for their growth and learning. This full-time position operates on an academic calendar with potential summer hours and includes a sign-on bonus.
Responsibilities
- Support students, Grades PreK-12, with special needs in New Milford area schools.
- Assist students in developing life skills and strategies to manage their behavior.
- Lift and transfer students as needed and assist them with daily living activities, including toileting.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance as an essential function of the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid Paraprofessional Certification certification.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of college credit, or an Associate's (or higher) degree, or pass the State Board of Education adopted paraprofessional assessment (ParaPro).
- Experience and skills in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) preferred.
- Desire to work with children with varied special needs, including autism.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding children and families.
- Ability to physically manage a disruptive child both individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to perform approved physical management techniques for student restraint and seclusion.
- Stamina and mobility to ensure student safety, including the ability to lift 10+ lbs.
