About the position

The Student Content Writer position is a work-study role within the Citizenship & Service-Learning department at Missouri State University. The role may also include occasional support for various Citizenship & Service-Learning programs, which could involve tasks such as event tabling, public relations, marketing, and basic data management. This position is designed for students currently enrolled at the institution, allowing them to balance their academic responsibilities with practical work experience. The Student Content Writer will work between 7 to 10 hours per week, with a flexible schedule to accommodate deadlines and peak periods. This role not only enhances the student's writing and editing skills but also provides insight into the operations of a university department focused on citizenship and community service.

Responsibilities

  • Write and develop blog posts and stories that effectively communicate the impact and activities of Citizenship & Service-Learning programs.
  • Review and revise written content for clarity, conciseness, and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Ensure all content aligns with the intended message, tone, and audience, maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism.
  • Create content and media for social media platforms, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  • Support various Citizenship & Service-Learning programs with tasks such as event tabling, public relations, marketing, and basic data management.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at the institution.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in content management tools and style guides (e.g., APA, AP).
  • Previous writing or content creation experience is preferred but not required.
  • Relevant coursework in writing, English, or communications is advantageous.
  • Ability to commit to a regular schedule with flexibility for deadlines and peak periods.
