About the position

The Student Coordinator position at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is integral to the education of health professions students. This role involves close collaboration with directors, coordinators, and administration across the main campus and Regional Programs throughout Arkansas. The Student Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating rotations, orientation activities, housing, and other essential elements that contribute to a positive and productive learning environment for students. The position is based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and requires a proactive approach to ensure that students are welcomed, informed, and supported during their rotations. In this role, the Student Coordinator will serve as the primary contact for medical, pharmacy, physician assistant, and other health professions students. Responsibilities include organizing student schedules, evaluations, housing arrangements, and various events and activities. The coordinator will also collect and analyze data related to student enrollment and satisfaction, using this information to identify trends and areas for improvement. Additionally, the position involves overseeing course rosters for various specialty rotations, conducting onsite orientations, and ensuring that all required clinics and didactic sessions are attended by students. Administrative support is also a key component of this role, which includes staying updated on institutional policies and procedures, entering data for student rotations, and providing support to assigned faculty. The Student Coordinator will work collaboratively with other administrative staff to ensure efficient operations and may also be involved in special projects and events as assigned. This position is essential for fostering a collaborative health care organization focused on improving patient care and the lives of Arkansans.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and organize student schedules, evaluations, housing, events, and activities in collaboration with Regional Programs administration and site directors.
  • Serve as the main contact for medical, pharmacy, physician assistant, and other health professions students during their rotation.
  • Collect and analyze data related to student enrollment and satisfaction to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee the course roster for various specialty rotations and conduct onsite orientation for rotations at the respective REP site.
  • Compose daily rotation schedules and supervise students to ensure attendance at required clinics and didactic sessions.
  • Assist Central Student Coordinators with monitoring and obtaining preceptor evaluations and the annual site selection process for medical student rotations.
  • Maintain the REP Medical Student Education (MSE) website and attend monthly REP student coordinator meetings.
  • Promote various MSE programs and recruitment events, attending when necessary.
  • Oversee student housing for medical, pharmacy, and physician assistant students, coordinating schedules and addressing housing issues.
  • Provide administrative support to assigned REP faculty, including scheduling, travel coordination, and clerical duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent certificate of study plus four (4) years of experience coordinating education programs or experience in student coordination or administrative support.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, education, computing or related field of study plus three (3) years of experience coordinating education programs or experience in student coordination or administrative support is preferred.
  • Prior experience with medical student education is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to communicate accurate and complete information.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when necessary.
  • Ability to demonstrate positive working relationships and prepare oral and written technical information and reports.
