About the position

The Student Employee in the IMC Content Communications department at Sam Houston State University is responsible for planning and creating engaging content for the university's social media platforms. This role involves writing news stories for the Today@Sam publication, which serves as a key communication tool for the university community. The position requires the student to attend various university events, capturing moments through photography and video, and assisting with related projects. The student will also perform other marketing and content-related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall communication strategy of the Integrated Marketing Communications division. This position is designed for students who are looking to gain practical experience in content creation and marketing within a university setting.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and create engaging content for SHSU social media.
  • Write news stories for Today@Sam.
  • Attend university events to capture content.
  • Assist with photo and video projects.
  • Perform other marketing/content-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Preferably a mass communication major with a public relations or multi-platform journalism emphasis.
  • Writing experience is required.
  • Availability to work 10-20 hours per week between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Some weekend work may be required for events.
