About the position

The Engineering Department at Utah Valley University is seeking a dedicated student grader to assist in evaluating student work for various Engineering courses. This position is ideal for current students who have a strong understanding of the subject matter and are looking to gain experience in an academic setting. The primary responsibility of the grader will be to assess assignments, projects, and exams submitted by students, ensuring that grading is fair, consistent, and reflective of the students' understanding of the material. The grader will work closely with faculty members to clarify grading criteria and provide feedback to students as needed. This role not only helps students improve their academic performance but also allows the grader to deepen their own understanding of the engineering concepts being taught. In addition to grading, the student grader may be required to attend meetings with faculty to discuss grading standards and any issues that arise during the grading process. The position requires a commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding student work and grades, as well as a professional demeanor when interacting with students and faculty. This is a part-time position that offers flexible hours, making it an excellent opportunity for students to balance their academic responsibilities with work experience in their field of study.

Responsibilities

  • Grading student work for Engineering courses.

Requirements

  • Must be a current UVU Student.
  • Passed ECE, ENGR, ME, and CIVE courses (to be graded) with a B/B+ grade or instructor approval.
  • Computer skills in MS Word, WordPerfect, Excel, and Internet applications.
  • Knowledge in the use of email, attaching files, retrieving email, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and the public.
