About the position

The Student Intern - Process Engineering (Chemical) position at Basin Electric Power Cooperative is a temporary role designed for students pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering. This internship will take place during the summer of 2025 and is located in Beulah, North Dakota, under the Compliance Program department. The primary purpose of this position is to assist Section Engineers and the Compliance Program Supervisor in various tasks related to process engineering, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Interns will engage in troubleshooting process conditions, reviewing quality assurance and quality control requirements, and monitoring process conditions. The role involves verifying the completeness and accuracy of Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), taking field readings and measurements for data collection, and utilizing software applications to verify or develop new designs. Interns will also perform technical investigations on equipment such as control valves, instruments, heat exchangers, pressure relief devices, and pumps, all under the guidance of experienced engineers. Additionally, the intern will be responsible for developing and issuing process engineering design packages that recommend changes to the process. Participation in other company functions, such as DGC Family Night, is also expected, fostering a sense of community within the organization. This position requires a commitment to safety and efficiency, with a focus on adhering to safe work procedures and regulations. Regular attendance is crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with verifying that Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's) are complete and accurate.
  • Assist Section Engineers by taking field readings and measurements for data collection to make design changes or monitor process operations.
  • Utilize software applications to verify designs or develop new designs.
  • Perform technical investigations for equipment such as control valves, instruments, heat exchangers, pressure relief devices, and pumps with direction from the Section Engineers and Compliance Program Supervisor.
  • Develop and issue process engineering design packages to recommend changes to the process while under supervision of the Compliance Program Supervisor.
  • Assist with other company functions, such as DGC Family Night.

Requirements

  • Enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited Chemical Engineering curriculum or recently completed a four-year degree in the same program.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • A minimum of 2.5 grade point average (GPA) is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Resume required.
