About the position
Stanley Consultants is seeking a Student Intern to participate in studies, designs, and assist with construction observation for our Water/Wastewater Department in our Chicago, IL office. This internship is designed for students currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering, and it offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of water and wastewater management. The intern will be involved in various tasks related to water, wastewater, water reuse, and water resources projects, contributing to the completion of assigned duties that are critical to the success of these initiatives. The role will require the intern to assist with engineering tasks such as the collection and analysis of data, checking design computations and quantity estimates, and preparing preliminary calculations and designs of treatment processes, piping, and pumping facilities. Additionally, the intern will assist in the development of reports, specifications, and plans, and will have the opportunity to observe ongoing construction projects periodically. This position may also involve travel for client meetings and fieldwork, providing a comprehensive learning experience in the practical aspects of civil engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in water and wastewater systems, be enthusiastic about learning, and possess a foundational knowledge of relevant software tools such as Microstation, AutoCAD, Revit, or GIS. This internship is a temporary position with the potential to lead to full-time employment in the future, making it an excellent stepping stone for students looking to advance their careers in civil engineering.
Responsibilities
- Assist with engineering tasks related to water and wastewater projects.
- Collect and analyze data for various projects.
- Check design computations and quantity estimates.
- Prepare preliminary calculations and designs of treatment processes, piping, and pumping facilities.
- Assist in the development of reports, specifications, and plans.
- Conduct periodic observation of ongoing construction projects.
- Participate in client meetings and fieldwork as required.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil/Environmental Engineering.
- At least a college sophomore with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Interest in water, wastewater, water reuse, and/or water resources.
- Knowledge of Microstation, AutoCAD, Revit, and/or GIS software is a plus.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Good writing skills.
