About the position

The Student Nurse Tech position at Select Specialty Hospital is a per diem role focused on providing essential patient care in a critical illness recovery environment. This role is designed for nursing students who have completed their first year of nursing education and are looking to gain hands-on experience while supporting patients with complex medical needs. The position offers a pathway to transition into a New Grad RN role upon obtaining an RN license, with comprehensive training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining vital signs, height, weight, and demographic data.
  • Assisting patients with personal and daily care, such as bathing, oral hygiene, shaving, and hair care.
  • Assisting with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care, and emptying drainage receptacles/tubes.
  • Removing peripheral IVs as directed by RN (with restrictions).
  • Delivering meals and snacks, feeding patients who are unable to feed themselves, and documenting oral intake.
  • Turning and positioning immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment; participating in mobility programs.
  • Answering patient call lights and performing services that enhance the physical well-being of the patient.
  • Transporting patients to designated areas, such as treatment centers.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN program).
  • Proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures and aseptic practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain effective working relations with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
