About the position

The Student Career Peer Coach position at Florida International University (FIU) is designed for students to assist their peers in career development. This role involves providing critiques on resumes, cover letters, and CVs, as well as offering basic career advice. The coach will also help in organizing workshops and events related to career readiness, while maintaining a supportive environment for students and alumni seeking career guidance.

Responsibilities

• Perform resume, cover letter, and CV critiques online and in person during designated Drop In program.
• Collect walk-in student and alumni numbers for data purposes weekly.
• Assist resources committee in making and updating office PowerPoint workshops such as Resume Writing, Salary Negotiation, and Career Readiness.
• Provide basic career advice to students and alumni.
• Educate students on the Career & Talent Development Department services and encourage students to be active.
• Create and modify student and alumni accounts on Handshake platform.
• Assist Career Development & Management team in creating workshop calendars as needed.
• Assist in office programs such as Career Fairs, Commencement Fair and other career-related events.
• Perform other office duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.
• Customer service knowledge.
• Ability to work in a team setting.
• Basic level of Microsoft Word.
• None to basic Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to take direction and work independently as needed.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.
