About the position

Cenovus is offering an exciting Co-op opportunity for students in the field of Process Engineering, located in Toledo, OH. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to gain valuable experience in a refining environment while working alongside industry-leading professionals. As a Co-op student, you will be part of a collaborative team that is engaged in meaningful projects, allowing you to develop essential skills and knowledge that will aid in building a successful career. The program emphasizes hands-on work experience, providing you with the chance to contribute fresh ideas and learn from some of the most innovative and talented individuals in the industry. Throughout your term, you will participate in a multi-discipline program that includes networking events organized by the New Grad Committee. These events feature group mentoring from senior and executive leaders, lunch and learns, guest speakers, technical presentations, and holiday celebrations. You will have access to a wide support network, including direct leaders, program leads, human resources, peers, mentors, and a buddy system. The program also includes structured goal-setting and performance evaluations, giving you the opportunity to present your work-term learnings to the Cenovus Leadership team. Additionally, students who need to relocate for their work term may be eligible for a lump sum relocation payment to assist with their expenses. Candidates must have their own means of transportation, as public transportation is not available in field locations. This position is set to begin on January 6, 2025, and will last for a term of four months. The role is safety-sensitive, requiring adherence to safe work practices and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during work hours. You will also need to pass a pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol assessment as part of the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Perform unit tests and analyze operating data to improve profitability.
  • Assist staff engineers with designs of less complex equipment such as piping, pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, etc.
  • Provide operating data for planning, operations improvement, economic evaluations, etc.
  • Assist staff engineers with troubleshooting to determine causes and solutions to operating problems.
  • Maintain and develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for the process units.

Requirements

  • Available to begin work on January 6, 2025.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • A valid US Driver's License is required due to the operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, preferably in 3rd or 4th year.
  • Currently attending an accredited post-secondary institution or registered in an accredited post-secondary co-op or internship program.
  • Strong academic performance and ability to work 40 hours per week during the scheduled semester.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience is considered an asset.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a refining environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with safety practices and procedures in industrial settings.
