Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Research Assistant for NJMS- Infectious Disease. This role is designed for students who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in TB immunology research. The Student Research Assistant will have the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and enhance their knowledge base in the field of TB immunology and host immunity. This position is ideal for those who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at Rutgers University and are looking to apply their academic knowledge in a practical research setting. The Student Research Assistant will work closely with a senior lab member, assisting in various laboratory tasks and experiments. This includes conducting human immunology experiments, which involve techniques such as flow cytometry, cell culture, and gene expression analysis using the NanoString platform. The assistant will also be involved in analyzing the data acquired from these experiments, providing a comprehensive learning experience in laboratory research. In addition to human experiments, the role includes assisting in animal experiments with M. tuberculosis in a BSL3 facility. The Student Research Assistant is expected to demonstrate a strong intellectual and interactive commitment to the position by staying updated with relevant literature and research publications. The use of computers and high-technology applications is integral to performing work duties, and the assistant will also contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication based on the data generated during their research activities. Compliance with BSL3 rules and guidelines is paramount, and the assistant will participate in evaluating existing procedures, suggesting revisions, and proposing new procedures as necessary.
