This laboratory is seeking a part-time Health Sciences Research Tech to assist in a range of research activities in studies of cell stress response. The Research Tech will provide routine technical assistance in the preparation for and performance of health sciences laboratory and/or field research under direct supervision and instruction from the PI. They will perform standard research protocol, under detailed and controlled research parameters in a health sciences laboratory, clinical and/or field research setting. The research tech will also conduct a variety of standardized tests and procedures; prepare data and samples; set up and operate standard laboratory or field-testing equipment. They will verify and record data and perform preliminary manipulation of experiment and/or test results. The tech will provide basic data analysis, summaries and interpretations. Duties and Responsibilities: * Bacterial transformation, prepare plasmids, PCR and DNA gel analysis * Cell culture and transfection * Sample preparation for Western blot or microscopy analysis * Collect data of PCR, western blot or microcopy * Autoclave; prepare cell or bacteria culture medium and pipette tips; disposal of cell culture waste * Lab order * Lab Inventory Maintenance Minimum Qualifications Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress. Preferred Qualifications * High School Diploma or equivalent * Interested in Biology in general, particularly cell biology, and molecular biology * Good skill to succeed assigned experiments * Computer and data entry skills, and a high attention to detail. * Ability to understand and follow scientific research protocols and procedures.
