About the position

The Student Services Advisor 4 at UC Berkeley's Department of Molecular & Cell Biology is responsible for a comprehensive range of student services duties, focusing on the Masters in Biotechnology program. This role involves academic advising, recruitment, admissions, student orientation, and career counseling, while also managing internship placements and fostering relationships with commercial biotech companies to enhance student learning experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complex student services to management, faculty, and students.
  • Advise faculty on departmental policies and procedures; review student progress and advise on degree requirements.
  • Establish individualized advising plans and maintain detailed student academic records.
  • Coordinate and implement advising, orientation, coursework, internship placement, and career advising.
  • Plan and design workshops and meetings for students, including program evaluation meetings.
  • Lead career workshops for students each semester.
  • Counsel students regarding Capstone degree requirements and ensure accurate final degree checks.
  • Identify and resolve intricate student issues and grievances, providing solutions and referrals as needed.
  • Interpret campus policies and advise on student conduct and grievances.
  • Coordinate approvals for all courses required for the Master's Degree.
  • Advise on outreach strategies for recruitment and admissions goals.
  • Plan outreach programs and evaluate transcripts for degree eligibility.
  • Schedule online admission interviews and prepare admission statistics reports.
  • Coordinate internship success workshops and ensure students are prepared for internships.
  • Make recommendations for program improvements and analyze current policies.
  • Assist with tracking program expenses and annual reporting.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Ability to learn University-specific computer application programs quickly.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment principles and procedures.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and multicultural competencies.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop original solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience.
