About the position

The Student Specialist position at Rochester Community & Technical College (RCTC) plays a vital role in supporting the Student Affairs division by managing processes and providing services within the Welcome and One Stop Center, Financial Aid, and Records & Registration. This role is focused on ensuring that students receive accurate information and support related to admissions, financial aid, and maintaining their records, while promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Process and document placement information to student files for accurate course placement.
  • Evaluate placement materials and enter institutional placement scores as appropriate.
  • Communicate additional placement materials needed to students when necessary.
  • Provide a welcoming environment in the Welcome and One Stop Center to facilitate recruitment and retention of students.
  • Assist stakeholders electronically and in person with positive and professional language.
  • Provide information about RCTC services, programs, and policies.
  • Collaborate with the Welcome and One Stop team to efficiently onboard new students.
  • Prepare documents for imaging into student permanent records and resolve data mismatches.
  • Process student record updates, changes, and requests, and support graduation processes.
  • Provide administrative support for the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal Committee, preparing appeals for review and communicating decisions to students.
  • Participate in department and division initiatives and activities.

Requirements

  • Communication skills sufficient to read, speak, and write effectively in English.
  • Customer service skills to provide prompt, welcoming, courteous, and accurate information.
  • Knowledge and skill in data entry/spreadsheets using software such as Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of private information according to law and policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of RCTC policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Experience working with diverse clientele.
  • Experience with the Integrated Statewide Reporting System, DARS, and Perceptive Content.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess problems and apply RCTC policy to resolve issues.
