About the position
The Student Success Coach will help students in the Recovery Support Specialist certificate program at Illinois Tech to identify barriers to success and resources for overcoming those barriers. The Coach will engage students in person-centered, holistic conversations to help them articulate their goals, problem solve, develop action plans, and provide accountability to enhance their success and increase student retention. The Recovery Support Specialist Certificate Program is a grant funded peer certification program within the psychology department. It aims to train peer providers who then go on to work in a variety of mental health and substance use treatment related settings.
Responsibilities
- Direct student contact and engagement including program recruitment and individual student planning.
- Serve as an advisor for students, providing mentorship and career development opportunities.
- Maintain documentation and confidentiality, including maintaining advisee files and completing confidentiality and standards trainings.
- Navigate software for documentation and management.
- Engage in professional development opportunities such as attending peer support trainings and meetings.
- Attend monthly advisory board meetings, bimonthly faculty meetings, and weekly program meetings.
- Plan and facilitate workshops and in-person residency.
- Secure relationships with internship sites and train them.
