About the position

The Student Surgical Technologist position is a temporary, full-time externship designed for students currently enrolled in an accredited surgical technologist program. This role provides hands-on experience in the operating room, where students will assist in preparing for surgeries, supporting the surgical team, and ensuring the proper maintenance and sterilization of surgical instruments and supplies. The externship lasts for 10 weeks, offering mentorship and supervision from experienced surgical staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room prior to surgery.
• Aid the practicing surgeon during procedures.
• Care for instruments and supplies needed in surgery.
• Perform technical skill duties in all operating room special service areas.
• Provide proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty equipment.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled and actively completing coursework in an accredited surgical technologist program.
• Experience in providing care with patients is preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) provider certification meeting AHA standards is required upon hire.
