About the position

The Student Trainee - Administrative (Automation) position at the Department of Homeland Security offers an opportunity for students to gain practical work experience while supporting the organizational staff in various administrative duties. This role is designed to assist in the training operations of the United States Secret Service, providing a pathway for students to develop their skills in a federal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support senior level staff with program goals and activities to gain practical work experience that supplements training in academic course of study.
  • Perform administrative/operational duties including researching, locating, and gathering information from various sources for staff use.
  • Check reports and other documents for correctness and appropriate form; verify discrepancies with the appropriate office(s) and/or stakeholders.
  • Assist senior level employees in evaluating assigned program goals; conduct follow-up actions to ensure timely receipt of responses; assemble data; and provide general information.
  • Maintain files, respond to general inquiries, and create documents for presentations.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be at least 16 years old at the time of appointment.
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited educational institution or certification program.
  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students throughout the appointment.
  • Must submit to a drug test prior to appointment and random drug testing while in the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in administrative support or office management.
  • Familiarity with federal government operations.
