About the position

The Student Trainee (Chemist) position at the Department of Justice's Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is designed for current students to gain practical experience in forensic laboratory career fields. The role involves performing various developmental assignments and training in chemical analysis, data reduction, and laboratory procedures, contributing to the mission of ensuring justice for all Americans.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data reduction and analysis using chemical computations, plot charts, and other technical methods.
  • Perform procedures with precision to gather reliable data.
  • Select appropriate test procedures for a variety of sample types and matrices.
  • Apply various metallurgical, instrumental, and wet chemistry analysis procedures.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records and perform laboratory instrument maintenance and performance checks.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Background and/or Security Clearance.
  • Must be a current student enrolled in an accredited educational institution.
  • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and receive no grade below average (C or equivalent) during the internship.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree for GS-04 grade level.
  • Completion of 4 academic course years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree for GS-05 grade level.
