The Student Trainee (Human Resources Specialist) position is an internship opportunity within the Office of Inspector General (OIG) at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The OIG is dedicated to promoting efficiency and effectiveness within the department while preventing waste, fraud, and abuse through audits and investigations. This internship is designed for current students enrolled in accredited educational institutions, providing them with a chance to gain practical experience in human resources and organizational development. The position is full-time and temporary, not exceeding one year, with the possibility of extension. Interns will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) and will be involved in various structured assignments related to the administration of the OIG training and development program. Interns will perform a variety of activities to support the Office of Assistant Inspector General for Administration and the Office of Training and Development. Responsibilities include providing support with learning management systems, assisting with helpdesk tickets, and preparing evaluation reports for internal training sessions. Interns will also help with the duplication and assembly of materials for training sessions, ensuring timely communication regarding materials and scheduling, and maintaining the training and development Point site. The role requires producing high-quality work products that align with the goals and objectives of the OIG, ensuring that all information is accurate, comprehensive, and timely. To qualify for this position, candidates must be U.S. citizens, enrolled at least half-time in a qualifying educational institution, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher. The internship is part of the Pathways Program, which aims to provide students with paid opportunities to work in federal agencies and explore the benefits of federal employment. Successful candidates may have the opportunity for non-competitive conversion to a term or permanent appointment in the competitive service upon meeting specific criteria. This position does not confer eligibility for life insurance or retirement coverage, but may confer eligibility for health insurance depending on the type of position held.
