About the position

The IT Cybersecurity Intern position at the U.S. Coast Guard's Engineering Services Division offers students a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in cybersecurity and information systems analysis. Interns will assist in the design, development, testing, and evaluation of information systems, contributing to the overall mission of the Coast Guard. This role is part of the Intelligence and Cybersecurity Diversity Fellowship Program, aimed at fostering diversity in the cybersecurity field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with designing, developing, testing, and evaluating information systems throughout the systems development life cycle.
  • Build, test, and modify product prototypes using working models or theoretical models.
  • Utilize models and simulations to analyze or predict system performance under different operating conditions.
  • Support the configuration management processes.
  • Provide input to implementation plans, standard operating procedures, maintenance documentation, and maintenance training materials.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must be registered or exempt from the Selective Service.
  • A probationary period is required for the duration of the internship.
  • Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
  • This position requires a Secret clearance.
  • Currently enrolled as a freshman, sophomore, or junior at an institution of higher learning, with a focus on Minority Serving Institutions.
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and maintain good academic standing throughout the fellowship program.
  • Declared major in a STEM, IT, cybersecurity, or intelligence-related field.
  • Maintain enrollment on a full-time basis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with operating computer equipment.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of information systems development life cycle.
