About the position

This Pathways internship position within the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) offers an opportunity for students to gain valuable training and work experience while supporting BJS projects that serve as the national foundation for knowledge related to the criminal justice system. The role involves developing statistical products, assisting in reviews, and performing statistical verification, all aimed at enhancing the understanding of criminal justice data.

Responsibilities

  • Develop statistical products, questionnaires, reports, and presentations to communicate findings.
  • Assist in conducting reviews and provide support for less complex assignments.
  • Determine the application of data to various projects and initiatives.
  • Perform statistical verification, including reviewing program code and conducting text-to-table checks.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Completed at least 2 academic years of post-high school study or have an associate's degree in mathematics or statistics.
  • Provide transcripts with student name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and GPA.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with statistical software or data analysis tools.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting findings to diverse audiences.
