About the position

The Student Worker Program at Ford Motor Company offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in High Voltage Electrical Distribution Systems Design Engineering. This 6-month program allows participants to work alongside top engineering and design talent, contributing to the development of innovative electric vehicles and key technologies such as batteries and charging systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design High voltage electrical Distribution Systems (Wire Harnesses) and components using 3D-2D CAD tools for FORD Advance EV projects.
  • Participate in system design reviews.
  • Formulate test plans to ensure component level performance.
  • Automate ECAD-MCAD Design tools (CAPITAL & 3DX).
  • Engage in hands-on prototyping and debugging of development vehicles.
  • Develop and maintain detailed design documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Research, test, and implement new materials for high voltage conductors and components considering cost optimization and environmental factors.

Requirements

  • Current undergrad or graduate student or new grad in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Math, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong ability to use data and analysis to make fast data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C, C++, R, etc.).
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and technical communication skills.
  • Proficiency in at least one 3D CAD program (3DX preferred).
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for cost (DFC) principles.
