About the position

Join Ford's Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) team as a Student Worker for a 6-month program, where you will contribute to the development of innovative electric vehicles and key technologies. This role offers hands-on experience in a collaborative environment, working alongside top engineering, design, and software talent to shape the future of mobility.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement embedded firmware for new product concepts, ensuring optimal functionality and performance.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers and product designers to evaluate prototype hardware and firmware interactions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve firmware issues in both prototype and production stages.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide guidance to junior firmware engineers.
  • Assist in the transition from prototype to production, ensuring a smooth hand-off to manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++.
  • Experience with microcontroller architectures, peripheral interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, etc.), and hardware communication protocols (LIN, CAN, Ethernet, USB).
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and non-blocking programming.
  • Basic understanding of electronics and the ability to read schematics and component datasheets.
  • Experience with firmware version control (Git) and bug tracking systems (Jira, Confluence).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and debug complex systems.
  • Experience working with open-ended problems and problem solving.
