About the position

The Studio Program Assistant at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art plays a vital role in supporting the Ford Learning Center Teaching Artists by fostering a positive and organized environment for participants in artmaking workshops. These workshops cater to a diverse audience, including individuals of various ages, abilities, and backgrounds from across the Kansas City region. The assistant will be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized classroom, participating in the setup and cleanup of workshops, and ensuring that all materials are readily available for use. This position requires a commitment to creating an inclusive atmosphere where all participants feel welcome and supported in their artistic endeavors. In addition to studio assistance, the Studio Program Assistant will provide student support by offering encouragement and positive reinforcement during workshops. Staying informed about best practices for engaging diverse audiences is essential, and the assistant will be expected to attend required staff development programs and meetings. Safety is a top priority, and the assistant will collaborate with teachers and museum staff to ensure a secure environment for all students. The role also involves outreach programming assistance, which may require travel to off-site locations for workshops in partnership with local organizations. Administrative tasks include responding to scheduling requests and maintaining an accurate work schedule using Microsoft Teams and Outlook. The Studio Program Assistant will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned to support the department and the museum's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an organized and clean classroom environment.
  • Participate in set-up and clean-up for workshops and classes as directed.
  • Work with Ford Learning Center colleagues to keep supply room and break room clean and orderly.
  • Offer assistance and positive reinforcement to students during workshops.
  • Stay current on best practices for meeting the needs of diverse audiences by attending required staff development programs and meetings.
  • Work with teachers and other museum staff to ensure the safety of students at all times.
  • Travel to off-site locations for workshops with partnering organizations within Kansas City as needed.
  • Respond to requests around availability and other general communications in a timely manner via Nelson-Atkins.org account.
  • Maintain an accurate work schedule using Microsoft Teams and Outlook to ensure punctuality and consistent attendance to scheduled studio programming.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the department, division, and/or museum.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
