About the position

The Study Abroad Advisor at Cal Poly's International Center plays a crucial role in supporting students' international education experiences. This position involves advising students on study abroad programs, managing application processes, and collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance global opportunities for students. The advisor will also be responsible for marketing and recruitment efforts, conducting orientations, and maintaining course equivalencies in the study abroad database.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a study abroad advisor for affiliated programs and First Year Global Opportunities (GO) programs.
  • Support marketing and recruitment efforts for study abroad initiatives.
  • Review applications and conduct orientations for study abroad participants.
  • Maintain course equivalencies in the study abroad database (Terra Dotta Systems).
  • Provide ongoing review and recommendations regarding GE substitution pre-approval requests for study abroad.
  • Collaborate with study abroad peer advisors and engage with faculty, staff, and students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in student services or a related field; OR a master's degree and one year of experience.
  • Ability to facilitate training, workshops, and discussions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to advise and interact with a diverse student population.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in international education or study abroad programs.
  • Familiarity with Terra Dotta Systems or similar databases.
