About the position

The Assistant Director for Gender and Sexuality at Slippery Rock University is a full-time, 12-month position within the Office for Inclusive Excellence. This role focuses on coordinating, planning, and assessing programs and initiatives for the Women's Center and Pride Center, aiming to enhance campus culture and support students who identify as female and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. The position involves collaboration with various university departments and community partners to promote equity, inclusion, and empowerment among these student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, plan, and assess programs and initiatives for the Women's Center and Pride Center.
  • Serve as the principal advisor for developing and enhancing campus culture impacting female and LGBTQIA+ students.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives and outreach for student populations.
  • Provide referrals on sexual orientation and gender-related issues to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Create and assess campus-wide programming that fosters safety, equity, and inclusion.
  • Cultivate relationships to increase engagement in gender identity and sexual orientation initiatives.
  • Generate reports and recommendations based on student learning outcomes for programmatic initiatives.
  • Oversee student leadership initiatives related to gender and sexual orientation.
  • Develop and coordinate programs and trainings with student organizations and community partners.
  • Assist in the development of promotional materials for the centers and OIE.
  • Collaborate with university departments to enhance recruitment and retention of LGBTQIA+ students.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of relevant presidential commissions.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of experience in education, counseling, psychology, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and cross-cultural abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Psychology, Education, or related field.
  • Experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Familiarity with issues relevant to LGBTQIA+ individuals.
  • Professional experience with a diverse student population.
  • Knowledge of issues surrounding women, gender inequality, and gender identity.
  • Experience in programming for college students.
