About the position

The Subcontracts Administrator II at Austal USA plays a crucial role in the Supply Chain group, ensuring that the company's material and service support needs are met while maintaining high customer service standards. This position involves negotiating agreements for various materials and services, managing subcontract administration activities, and acting as a liaison between suppliers and internal departments. The role requires handling medium-risk negotiations and ensuring compliance with procurement policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the negotiation of short and long-term agreements for raw materials, parts, and services.
  • Participate in day-to-day subcontract administration activities including market research and supplier sourcing.
  • Issue and follow up on purchase orders with requesters and end users.
  • Assist with supplier metrics and advise suppliers on their performance.
  • Review statements of work, material specifications, service contracts, and terms and conditions as needed.
  • Act as a liaison and point of contact with suppliers for formal communications and submittals.
  • Coordinate and communicate with all departments on subcontract-related issues.
  • Promote continuous improvement in the procurement organization.
  • Track total spend in category and set appropriate savings targets.
  • Evaluate the financial stability and technical capability of suppliers when required.
  • Maintain close communication with supplier account and customer service personnel to minimize risks.
  • Conduct supplier site audits and investigations when required.
  • Travel as necessary to complete supplier site assessments and resolve issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or Material Management preferred; 6 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 2+ years of purchasing experience required.
  • Ability to complete Austal Subcontract Certificate Level I within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience in material and service sourcing activities including quoting, analyzing, and negotiating.
  • Strong Excel skills including pivot tables and v-lookups.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Access is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, preferably IFS, but others like SAP or Oracle are acceptable.
  • General understanding of UCC, FAR, DFARS, and ITAR requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with supplier rationalization activities and familiarity with Approved Supplier Lists.
  • Knowledge of enterprise quality system functionality (e.g., ISO 9000, AS9100).
