About the position

The Substance Abuse Counselor will provide outpatient counseling services to clients dealing with substance abuse issues. This role involves managing a caseload in collaboration with an Administrative Assistant and Clinical Director, focusing on client support, cognitive behavioral changes, and risk assessments. The counselor will also maintain regular communication with supervising officers to ensure effective treatment recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual one-hour counseling sessions as authorized.
  • Facilitate multiple group sessions (1.5 hours each) per week, focusing on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
  • Communicate regularly with Residential Re-Entry Center Case Managers regarding client attendance and appointments.
  • Utilize computer applications for clinical documentation.
  • Develop initial and updated treatment plans quarterly.
  • Complete intake ASI assessments when authorized.
  • Prepare Monthly Treatment Reports for the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons.
  • Complete discharge summaries for clients.
  • Attend training sessions and staff development as directed by management.

Requirements

  • Valid Substance Abuse Certification in the State of California.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in the Substance Abuse Counseling field.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Enthusiastic about learning and adaptable to new policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain professional boundaries.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • General knowledge of the federal government Statement of Work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
