About the position

The Substance Abuse Counselor position focuses on providing support and intervention for students enrolled in the TEAP program. The role involves facilitating group sessions, conducting educational presentations, and collaborating with various staff to promote substance use prevention and intervention strategies. The counselor will also develop and monitor intervention plans, conduct ongoing counseling, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and facilitate group sessions for students in the TEAP program.
  • Schedule and conduct student activities related to the TEAP program.
  • Conduct weekly presentations for new students on TEAP services and policies.
  • Provide interactive presentations on substance use prevention during the Career Preparation Period.
  • Schedule and conduct at least three annual center-wide substance use prevention activities.
  • Participate in clinical consultations regarding substance use prevention efforts.
  • Review intake assessments of all students within one week of arrival.
  • Collaborate with mental health consultants to recommend medical separations for students with substance use conditions.
  • Provide individual and group intervention services focusing on employability barriers.
  • Assist in developing operating procedures for alcohol and drug testing and intervention.
  • Develop and monitor student intervention plans and document progress.
  • Conduct ongoing counseling and support groups for intervention students.
  • Work with various staff to ensure intervention program components are understood and integrated.
  • Solicit input from counselors to update intervention plans and behavioral contracts.
  • Collaborate with recreation department to develop activities promoting an alcohol-free lifestyle.
  • Maintain liaison with community intervention resources and evaluate self-help groups.
  • Assist in compiling quarterly reports for the National Health Service.
  • Conduct training on substance abuse for newly employed staff and existing staff annually.

Requirements

  • Must possess current state Drug and Alcohol Counselor certification/licensure.
  • Valid State Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in conducting training sessions on substance abuse prevention.
  • Knowledge of Job Corps policies and procedures.
